I bought this to use for work with kids aged 12-15 with special needs and they love it. Easy to learn how to play, quality pieces/ game board. Highly recommendI needed a junior version of Settlers of Catan for my 6 & 8 year old grandsons. I was completely satisfied with everything from the ease of ordering to the promptness of delivery. As for the game it was just right for their ages.I love catan and played it the first time a very, very long time ago back in germany and it has stuck with me as being a favorite over the years.I'm absolutely a gamer, both pc/console and tabletop, but I'm also a mom to a little kid and have no social life.My son is 5 now so this game is absolutely perfect for introducing him to this type of gameplay. Collecting resources, coming up with a strategy, even if he can't think as far ahead as an adult (duh) and I help him with the reasoning a bit at times, I feel like this game isn't just fun, but actually beneficial for him mentally. That all said, he really likes it and so do I and I can't wait to play the adult version of catan with him as well as other tabletop strategy games.I also highly recommend getting labyrinth, another great game.I'm a huge fan of Catan and when I found there's a Junior game I can start the grand kids on (ages 5,7,9), I jumped on it. All of them learned it very quickly and enjoyed it. The 7 & 9 year old caught on so quick I introduced them to regular Catan and they like that better. We are not fans of Catan. Own it, don’t play it. With many, many games in our collection it just isn’t a hit and is hasn’t been played in years. This is an easy to learn version that is great for kids as young as 5. This one is similar, but also improves it with having a market to trade at and parrot tiles to take a chance on. I do feel like the parrot tiles are perhaps OP (overpowering), but that seems ok for a kids game and makes it a viable strategy for young ones to use and perhaps win.The tiles are thick (were kind of hard to punch out and left weird marks on the edges where they were still connected for shipping) and nice looking - vibrant. The miniatures seem a little flimsy but as long as you treat them well should last - they look fine, especially for the 20 dollar price point. The board is thin but seems okay at the cheap price point as well but I do wish it was thicker. As a whole, it has a solid table presence which is really important to get kids to want to play. The more table presence and visual appeal it has, the greater desire a child will want to play the game again, and this succeeds there. What I really don’t like is the insert. The layout seems like it might have been for a different game and just repurposed. It is really unfortunate but maybe it was to keep the price down? What I really wish was they had included baggies or something for the resources and player pieces which would have cost next to nothing to add if they were going to use this insert. The game is solid, and fun to play with kids. It I s also quick unlike the full version. You can play in 20 to 30 minutes very easily. For a kids game, we like it a lot and I don’t hesitate to play (which is surprising because I’m not a fan of Catan, and I was hesitant to buy this originally) but it’s quick nature and nice table presence just makes it enjoyable. If my children like it then I like it. I can overlook the clunky insert, and strongly recommend buying this, even if you don’t like Catan. This was a gift for my 6 year old granddaughter. Who loves the game and won three times out of 6 times playing it.I cannot recommend this game enough. My eight and five year old both love it. It's easy to learn and fun for the entire family to play.We love settlers if catan for adults and couldn’t wait to try the kids version. The game was missing the instructions. This is basic quality control. And apparently happened to other buyers as well who were missing pieces. I was able to find them online. As for the game, it works basically like the adult version but with a controlled/fixed field and resource numbers and a market place (in addition to the stockpile) that allows kids to trade 1:1 if they’re not ready to trade with opponents. My 5 year old loves board games and has watched the grown ups play Settlers of CATAN for a while now so we thought we would introduce him to the junior version. He understood the game mechanics straight away and loves playing it.The theme is pirate so the resources are a little different from the adult version, but it still incorporates most of it’s gameplay such as the ‘robber’ which in this case is a ‘captain’ and instead of building roads and cities you build ships and lairs or trade for Coco the Parrot tiles which is like the Development Cards.I wish it would give you the option of where to place your first lair and ship though as this is one of the main strategies in Settlers of CATAN and I don’t think it would’ve made it too hard for juniors.Overall, there’s not much room for strategy planning as much of it is down to luck but I guess as a junior game for my 5 year old, will do now.I expect he will outgrow it by the time he’s 7 though and move onto the proper game, but it is a great introductory game for him nevertheless.I bought this as a gateway game for my 5 year old daughter to get into board games that isn't the usual boring games they lose interest in like operation or who shook hook? ( terrible game!!) she was instantly caught up in the thematic of the game, loves the collecting of goods to build ships and pirate dens, loves the parrot tokens though they are very powerful in the game and if you get a few you generally win! and she loved the ghost pirate the more she played. it gave her the basic idea of collecting certain goods to build, a bit of strategy on movement and a first look at a proper game. we have played it a dozen times now and she still askes to play unlike hook who lives in a cupboard after 2 attempts at balancing the components on the hammock...Amazing game! Really recommend it for whole families my boys 9 & 6 love to play it it was easy for them to understand and makes them think before doing something. My kids have very little screen time so games like this are important for me to get for them. I love this game and my kids friend already asked they parents to get them one aswell so its a win.My kids are 4 and 6 and took to this game very quickly - the rules are pretty easy to grasp and the setting (you're pirates collecting resources from islands in order to build more ships and lairs) is fun. There's a non-player "ghost pirate" character that helps balance out play, who comes in handy when things start getting too competitive. While it's most interesting with 3 or 4 players the flip side of the board is designed for 2 player games which is a nice touch.Bought this to occupy my son on the recommendation from someoneGood game for under 10s, gets them to think of a strategyWe have played quite a few times
