A very engaging, quickly moving short story. While boxing is a key part of the story in which London describes the fighter's love of the boxing "game" and his fiancee's belief that she is at odds with his intense love of boxing, you could substitute other activities a young man is drawn to: football, baseball, chemistry, horses, etc. with the same type of complex challenge. However, in this case he is involved with a sport that is potentially deadly.I could kind of see the inevitable ending, but hoped London would take another route in which the boy would have to make a conscious choice between his game and his love. But, London being London this story was true to his style as exhibited in other works. Of course, this is a very quick read, flawlessly written and would appeal to a very wide range of readers.
